Incorporation of a non-profit charitable entity was the inevitable sequel to my pledge of financial support for two kids in Haiti and the ideal vehicle by which I could consummate my promise to raise funds by way of annual golf tournaments.
Therefore,in early April of 2009, during a golf game with my friend and accountant, Mark Mogensen, we kicked around some possible titles and decided that GOLF FOR HOPE would be most fitting, if available. A search of the corporate record revealed its availability and GOLF FOR HOPE was incorporated on June 30, 2009 and immediate plans were set in motion for our first golf tournament at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club on February 12, 2010.
The Corporation was granted 501(c)(3) Federal Income Tax Exempt status on January 26, 2010.
The bands of GOLF FOR HOPE extend not only to distant Haitian underprivileged and disadvantaged youth, but also, within immediate reach, offer hope to so many of our local young girls and boys who are desperately in search of a stabilizing force in their lives. No sport can accomplish this the way golf can. Some of life's core values – Courtesy, Etiquette, Punctuality, Perseverance, Honesty, Respect for elders- have been taught and emphasized over the last ten years in my junior programs, as a vehicle by which the lives of our youth could be fashioned on the way to their becoming upstanding citizens and role models in their communities.
GOLF FOR HOPE has recently embarked on an outreach program to attract to golf and the discipline that the sport offers, young boys and girls within a five mile radius of Miccosukee Golf and Country Club, confident that just as I won the support of the corporate community of Miami to assist the Haitian youth, that the same community will readily play their role as I invite them, and you, to join me on this journey, as I seek to improve the lives of our local young boys and girls.
I am profoundly grateful to my wife, Bel, and my son, Mark, whose used their combined graphic skills to conceptualize, produce and format my company's logo and tournament brochure, to my friend, Mark Mogensen of Mogensen and Associates Accountants, who secured the company's incorporation and tax exempt status in record time and to my friend, Greg Ortiz, who spent unending hours constructing my website, and all of whom gave their time and labour voluntarily.
